Postcard Sizes and USPS Mailing Classes

Size determines both the visual impact and the USPS postage rate. Standard postcard sizes qualify for lower postage rates.

Size Dimensions USPS Class Best For
Standard Postcard 4" x 6" First Class Postcard Rate Appointment reminders, promotional offers, event saves
Large Postcard 5" x 7" First Class Letter Rate Real estate listings, event invitations, product launches
Jumbo Postcard 6" x 9" Marketing Mail Rate Direct response campaigns, coupons, neighborhood saturation
Oversized Postcard 6" x 11" Marketing Mail Rate High-impact campaigns, EDDM saturation, real estate farming

USPS postage rates change periodically. We apply current rates at time of mailing. Ask for a mailing cost estimate when you request your print quote. See our bulk mailing rates page for current pricing guidance.

Postcard Printing FAQ

What is the minimum postcard size for USPS mailing?

The USPS minimum postcard size is 3.5" x 5" and at least 0.007" thick. Maximum size for postcard rates is 4.25" x 6". Cards larger than 4.25" x 6" are classified as letters or flats at higher postage rates. Our standard 4" x 6" postcard qualifies for the lowest USPS postcard postage rate.

What is EDDM postcard mailing and how does it work?

Every Door Direct Mail (EDDM) is a USPS program that allows businesses to mail to every address on a carrier route without a mailing list. You select the routes by ZIP code, neighborhood, or demographic filter. We print the postcards, prepare them to USPS EDDM specs, and drop at the post office. EDDM postage rates are lower than First Class and no mailing permit is required. See our direct mailing services page for full details.

How much does postcard printing and mailing cost?

Postcard printing cost depends on size, quantity, paper stock, and finishing. Mailing cost depends on quantity, class of mail, and whether you are doing EDDM or targeted list mail. As a general guide, a 6" x 9" EDDM campaign of 2,500 cards including printing and postage typically runs between $400 and $700. Request an estimate with your specific details for accurate pricing. See our bulk mailing rates page for current postage cost guidance.

Can you personalize each postcard with different names and offers?

Yes. Variable data printing (VDP) allows each postcard in a print run to carry unique information: the recipient's name, a personalized offer, a specific QR code, or custom images. We use XMPie at our Indianapolis facility. Personalized postcards typically see 2 to 5 times higher response rates than generic postcards. Provide your data as an Excel spreadsheet or CSV file.

What paper stock is standard for postcards?

14 pt gloss cardstock is the most common postcard stock. It is heavy enough to survive mail handling without bending, holds color well on a gloss coated surface, and has a back coating that accepts ink for the address panel. 16 pt provides extra thickness and a premium feel. For writeable backs such as RSVP postcards, we use uncoated or matte-coated stock.

How long does postcard printing take?

Standard printing turnaround is 3 to 5 business days from approved files. Mailing adds 1 to 2 days for addressing, sorting, and USPS drop. First Class mail is typically delivered within 3 business days of drop. Marketing Mail delivery windows are 5 to 14 days and are not guaranteed. Plan your campaign in-mail date accordingly and work backwards from your event or offer deadline.
